Notecards – Pack of 6 with envelopes – Lawn Tennis Heritage Theme.
This card commemorates Birmingham’s two Victorian Lawn Tennis pioneers, Harry Gem and Augurio Perera. They played what is recognised to be a forerunner of lawn tennis, on the lawn behind Perera’s home in Ampton Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham as early as 1859, some fifteen years before Major Wingfield launched his ‘Sphairistike’ or Lawn Tennis game.
The photo on the front of the card shows a replica court set up in the Ampton Road garden. The back of the card features the blue plaque on the house and a diagram of the court.
A great card for fans of the sport, for your own use or to buy as a gift for a lover of Lawn Tennis.
